Carpe Diem! These are the words that greeted my students daily as they enter our classroom, and the words that hang in my new classroom..my dining room! I aim to create an environment filled with creativity, educational challenges, happiness, and self-awareness. Every day, my students rise to the challenge and truly seize the day!
My students attend a Title I public school in New York City where nearly 100% of students come from low-income households.
My students are a diverse group of intellectually gifted fourth graders. Their interests are unique and varied, yet they share the trait of innate inquisitiveness. Our classroom is a place of discovery and inquiry. We strive to tap into our higher-order thinking skills on a daily basis; pushing ourselves to explore and think deeply.
My Project
I have been using a lot of my own resources to enhance my distance teaching. From various 'props' around my house, dramatic interpretations of lessons, various technological teaching aids, as well as lots of paper and markers. The large chart paper is quite expensive and I have gone through quite a bit and need some help attaining more.
Having a variety of chart paper and markers will allow me to teach my students in a hands on way, as well as keep them engaged.
From literacy to math to a morning message, they will prove invaluable! The variety of markers will also keep my fourth graders focused on the lesson at hand. We may be distance learning, but I am attempting to keep things as normal as possible for my beloved kids. Having these supplies will go a long way in helping me achieve this goal.
More than half of students from low‑income households
