This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a first grade class of 22 students in an urban community. Most students are lacking even the most basic materials to be able to successfully learn at home. While we continue living in such unpredictable times, never did I think when I packed up my students’ folders for two weeks of distance learning we wouldn’t finish the school year together. My students and I have taken on our distance learning with determinations, consistency, and perseverance. We are in need of materials for their toolboxes. Most of our materials were sent home in March when we learned we were not coming back to school for the rest of the school year.
My Project
Please help me give my students leveled books for home and distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students are not able to leave return to school yet and do not have access to appropriate leveled books. My students need a variety of books to read. Before our school was closed I tested each student with Fountas and Pinnell to ensure I was supporting them at their individual reading level.
My students need independent reading books to stay on grade level until we can go back to school.
My students need learning kits that contain grade-level reading material. These kits also contain hands-on learning materials that make learning exciting as well as work on their reading comprehension.
