My Students
I teach in a Title I school in Oakland, CA in heart of Chinatown, where 71% of my students are English language learners, speaking a variety of languages. My students come from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, Chinese, Vietnamese, Hispanic, Iranian and Filipino and African American, to name a few 80% of my students qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program.
My students come to class everyday curious and eager to learn.
They are resilient and creative. As we start to look at the beginning of the new school year it is looking like we will meet and build our classroom community virtually but with just as much energy and enthusiasm as if we were together in person.
My Project
As this school year is beginning with distance learning, I need specific tools to help me teach my students both online live as well as for recorded lessons.
These tools will allow me to create and teach lessons that are meaningful and synchronous.
The document camera will allow me to model and show examples of all subjects. I will be able to show students a read aloud story, while stopping and asking comprehension questions. The magnetic white board will help me show math problems and strategies and spelling strategies both in a whole class grouping as well as a small group. The noise cancelling headphones are a necessity when teaching from home in order for me to hear my students.
These tools will make a big difference in my distance teaching.
