My students need frogs and new scissors so they can dissect the frogs to compare the anatomy of the frog to the human body systems they are learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is comprised of 260 seventh-grade girls who are eager to learn. Our students come from a variety of economic backgrounds. The students at this all-female school are excited about science and love to get their hands dirty with experiments. Frogs will allow us to complete their learning of the 12 body systems by allowing them to see similar organ systems in another species.
My school fosters creativity through a strong focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Students are encouraged to work collaboratively, think outside the box, and take ownership of their ideas and creations. Our school district does not fund frogs for dissection, so each year I have had to find sponsors to continue this worthy endeavor.
My Project
I may not have a student named Joy, but it might as well be all my girls names as they look forward to dissecting frogs. Do you remember the first time you participated in a dissection in your science class? This project will allow my students a relevant, hands-on learning experience to see how bodies are arranged and how systems work together. Students will learn how food moves through the digestive system, how air inflates the lungs, how blood vessels move blood around the body, and how the body systems of frogs are similar and different from humans. In dissecting an animal, students see, touch, and explore the various organs in the body.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
