My Project
My school represents one of the most diverse student populations in the state of California. Many of the students have had minimal exposure to exploring the natural environment.
By providing the students with dissectible owl pellets, the students gain a deep appreciation of food cycles.
They see and catalog the diet of a barn owl.
In addition, students gain real "scientist" skills of careful observation, analysis of material, and matching their finds to a bones chart, and meticulous cataloging of their finds.
Having done this project with a class of 5th graders last year, I am confident that it will be an engaging and deep learning experience.
