Displaying Students Art they Created about Black History Month!
Help me give my students display boards, laminating film for displaying their artwork for families to keep celebrating black history month with art students created for the virtual art show & for their 8th grade graduation art show.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our Title I school serves free breakfast for 85% of the students, and they get to the school early to eat the breakfast that they don’t get at home. My students eat their breakfast at school each morning before they come to my class. Fuel in their bodies makes them ready to learn and start the day. We are a uniform school. Some kids have uniforms that fit and are clean, and others have uniforms that are too big, too small, and don't really look clean. The majority of kids are happy, energetic, and ready to learn, but some students have trouble staying awake and staying focused. They come every day from group homes, and some are homeless or being raised by grandparents.
My students are 11, 12, 13, and 14-year-old boys and girls who are growing, trying, creating, experiencing, experimenting, challenging, and ultimately becoming educated with art in my classroom.
My classes are all year long, so I can work with these students in-depth with technology, get to know their strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, and see their creativity develop as their experience with art increases and grows.
My Project
The end of a year of distance/hybrid learning is coming to an end and we are celebrating with a virtual augmented art show of the work students created studying African Art during Black history month to include the African American student population during this trying time and also to permanently include African art in the art history curriculum we study each year. The school is also getting work together for an 8th grade drive by art show as students pick up their diplomas. To keep the beautiful drawings and paintings students created of different African Textile patterns, we need black and colorful mounting board and clear plastic lamination to take care and show appreciation of their creativity learning about African art while at home. Students made hand prints with textiles from 4 countries in Africa and learned about the countries and how the textiles were made with weaving their own African textile paper.
Color printing their artwork, framing their artwork will give each student & their family something to remember this time during the pandemic, during the black lives matter movement, an appreciation of each student's creative ability and feeling good about themselves as well.
