My Students

Our students come from a very rural area with little opportunities to experience new places and new things, in fact, many of the students in our district never travel outside of the county, let alone the state. Most of the student population receives free or reduced lunches, and many participate in the backpack program which provides weekend meals and food for the family.

Without the support of the school, our students will most likely never be given an opportunity like this again.

The costs to attend such an event would be unattainable based on the socioeconomic status of the residents.

My Project

The mission of the Oxford Academy and Central School District Science Club is to develop self-directed learners with a love for education. This is to be achieved through hands-on STREAM activities which create leadership opportunities, build knowledge, and create a love for science and technology.

We would like to give our students the opportunity to travel to Disney to experience the Disney YES program.

The YES program integrates science and technology into the Disney experience to allow students to learn in meaningful and fun ways. The YES program will teach students about things like physics and marine life conservation by using unique experiences at Disney World. We would also be visiting Kennedy Space Center to tie in our studies of the Saturn V and other aspects of the space program.

Many of our students do not get the opportunity to travel outside our county let alone our state. This trip would be a wonderful opportunity for them not only to have a learning experience but to experience things like Disney and traveling in a way they may not have the opportunity to otherwise.

This project will help fund our transportation which will help lower the total cost of the trip for many students to a level that will be attainable through fundraising.
