This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I love my students enthusiasm for learning. I love the school family we have built over the years and continue to expand upon. Most of all I love coming to school each day and working with the kids in the pursuit of excellence.
I teach at a Title I school in Tampa where over 90% of students are on the free lunch program.
Most of our student population is Hispanic/Latino, and our families typically have multiple students. Since many of my students are still new to the English language, they are mostly visual learners and need more exposure to vocabulary.
My students want to learn. My families want the best education for their children. I want to allow my students the same opportunities, while still accommodating their different needs and preparing them for the ever-changing 21st Century jobs they will have.
My Project
Many of our students are picked up by cars each day. With 400 students trying to meet their parents it can get chaotic. We try to call student names prior to their parents arrival at the pick up area, but they are often distracted and it is difficult to hear. These walkies will be used to help students know where to go to meet their cars for dismissal each day.
Having walkie talkies in proximity to the students helps them to take a more active role during dismissal.
Our goal is to help create independent learners by giving students responsibility to be active in their own dismissal.
