Discovery With Hands-On Learning

My students need various books, 6 mp3 players, a cordless microphone, puzzles, math trays, and workstation materials to practice basic math and reading skills, like place value and fluency.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one learned in school." Albert Einstein said this almost 100 years ago and boy, has education changed since his day. Today we have figured out that children learn best when they are given opportunities to learn through discovery.

I teach a class of students who are very different in every way.

Some are Gifted and Talented, some speak English as a second language, some love to read, and some love to play. They all do have one thing in common though-they all love to learn! My school is in an area of low economic development. Over 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. So often times, they lack resources in literature and technology to lay the foundation for even basic skills.

My Project

Your donation will allow me to provide instruction using more hands-on learning for my kiddos. They will be allowed to manipulate and discover, a better way to learn. The workstations in reading and math will reinforce basic skills taught in class. It gives the students opportunities to work together as well. I will use the 6 mp3 players to record stories for them to listen to and the microphone will be a way for them to have fun reading to each other. The books will be placed in our classroom library, giving them more opportunities to practice the skills they have learned.

Students learn best when they can manipulate materials making discoveries as they practice their skills.

Your generous donation would make it possible for many students to not only lay a wonderful foundation in the basics but also to foster a passion for learning. The more fun they have learning, the more they will want to do it and continue making discoveries for themselves.
