This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"For most students academic learning is too abstract. They need to see, touch and smell what they read and write about." -John Goodlad, Educational Researcher and Theorist.
My students work hard on their reading and writing skills daily in our classroom.
This trip is their chance to "see, touch, and smell" what they have read about.
I have a great group of third grade students. They come to school every morning ready to do their best to become college ready. We have been fortunate enough to explore an art museum on a trip earlier this year. On this trip, my students thrived. They were so engaged in their surroundings and put effort into exploring as much as possible. These experiences are so powerful for their learning!
Our school primarily serves low-income families from the surrounding neighborhoods. The school's decor emphasizes the importance of a college education, and each classroom is a different college that promotes just one more place for them to learn. The goal is that these students will apply the critical thinking skills they learn at our school to their future education and their lives.
My Project
With your donation, we will be able to take a field trip to the Discovery Science Center. Here students will be able to participate in hands-on learning of the science curriculum. Students will get an activity booklet as they explore independently. They will also get to see demonstrations and take part in experiments. In the interactive exhibit, students will learn more about weather and natural disasters. There is also an exhibit related to the planets which will pair well with the solar system unit we have covered in class. Finally, a special "Eco Challenge" program will explain ways to help care for our earth which are lessons important for all ages.
Our trip will reinforce what we have been learning in the classroom and introduce my students to so much more.
This day will ignite their passion for the sciences and lifelong learning.
