My students need math and science items such as base ten blocks, magnetic items, and space sand. They also need storage boxes for the items.

My Students
I teach 2nd grade at a small suburban school in Washington.
My school is designated as a high-poverty school with many students receiving free/reduced-priced meals because of their socioeconomic situation.
If you were to come visit, however, you would never know that. You would see students who love learning and want to do their very best. My classroom of 7 and 8 year olds is always made up students who have a wide variety of abilities, interests, and challenges. This includes learning support students, English language learners, and academically gifted students. I am here to teach them all and give them the best education!
My Project
Ok, I'll say it: Let's throw out all of the worksheets in the classroom!!! Do you know of any child who says, "You know what I'd like more of in school? Worksheets!" No? Neither do I. And yet in many schools in classrooms across this country, students walk into their classrooms every morning and are instantly greeted with a worksheet under the guise of "Morning Work." As a teacher, I get it. We need to make sure that our students are instantly engaged upon arriving at school, and we also need them to be occupied while we take care of our own morning responsibilities: lunch count, attendance, student needs, etc.
But, worksheets?
I say -- NO!
With this project, I am asking for materials that will allow me to create Discovery Boxes for my students' Morning Work. Each Discovery Box will be filled with math and/or science materials that will allow them to explore and learn through discovery, investigation, observation, and experimentation. One Discovery Box may contain space sand and some experiment cards. Another may have magnets inside for them to explore! Some might have math manipulatives inside, allowing students to explore numbers and problem solving in their own ways. Regardless of what is inside the Discovery Box, the goal for the outcome remains the same: the STUDENT will have their hands on actual items that will spark their creativity and THEY will be in charge of their learning.
