Help me give my students Magna-tiles. We will use them in connection with our curriculum’s themes to create living spaces and habitats for toy people and animals.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Preschool and Prekindergarten students are naturally curious. We want to expand their curiosity by providing them Magna-tiles in the Research Lab and classrooms of Ysleta PreK Center. The diversity of these building materials will provide our students opportunities to show their individuality in constructing buildings for toy people and habitats for toy animals.
All 470 students of our PreK will be able to use these amazing Magna-tiles.
Each student attends the Research Lab on a rotation basis. This is where our science teachers facilitate discovery lessons. Once students know how to use and take care of the Magna-tiles, teachers will be able to check them out of the Research Lab to use in their classrooms to continue their learning.
Our curriculum is divided into themes. At the beginning of the school year, students are learning about how marvelous they are amongst their classmates. This is where we will incorporate the Magna-tiles with toy people so that they can construct special living or gathering areas that they like. They may choose to build a tent for a camping trip or a beautiful house to live in. Later in the school year, we learn about animal habitats. The Magna-tiles have animals that are specific to different habitats. Students will build habitats according to what is being taught. They will expand their learning by adding their own creative sceneries with school materials, such as construction paper, pom-poms, chenille stems and glue.
We are extremely excited for the opportunity to explore with Magna-tiles!
