Imagine yourself a 6 year old arriving in America and English is not your native language. Next, imagine being in school just days later with the monumental task of learning how to read, speak ,and write this new language. LeapFrog TAG Reader will assist my students with English language development.
Our school serves grades PreK through 6.
The majority of my 1st grade students are low-income, English Language Learners who have recently arrived in America. They are full of promise, curiosity and a love for learning. However, because most of their parents do not speak English, the students are not able to receive English support at home. My students are not exposed to rich vocabulary and experiences. Their families are supportive in many other ways and have high hopes and dreams for their children to achieve great things.
My Project
The LeapFrog TAG Readers will provide my ELL students tremendous support with emergent literacy skills. The students will be able to work at their own pace while practicing 1-1 match, letter/sound correspondence, word recognition, repeated readings, fluency and vocabulary.
This project will provide critical support in the English language development of my students.
They will be able to use the TAG Readers both in school and at home. It will open new doors in their reading adventures and continue to foster their love of learning.
