This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are students with special needs and most are thought to be on the autism spectrum. They attend school in a highly impoverished district where access to speciality items is limited. My school specializes in working with preschoolers who have special needs and helping them get the early interventions that they need to be successful in their education. They are lovable and thrive on learning through music and play. Every day they look forward to the classroom routine which involves lots of language, play, and music. Language and math are areas that are difficult for them and using music, games, and pictures allows an avenue of language that is otherwise closed to them.
My Project
The duct tape will allow me to give clear boundaries on the floors to help my students stay safely distanced so that they can continue to come to school safely. The hula hoops will give them individualized spaces for opportunities to play with objects and learning materials. The circle spots will guide kids on where to stand and move in a safe manner in order to get their necessary gross motor movement needed for their little bodies while being safe in this new school environment. Without these items, it will be very difficult to function within our classroom.
