Help me give my students sensory bottle-making materials so we can practice mindfulness and calming strategies after outdoor play.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many families at my school have been in the community for a long time. At the same time we have a growing population of newcomers to the country, which makes our school identity increasingly multi-cultural, multi-lingual and vibrant. My students have been on the roller coaster ride of going through distance learning for over a year and returning to in-person school with new health and safety expectations.
My students are excited to learn and are navigating the demands of being in school, staying safe, and just being kids.
We give special attention to developing our classroom community and strive to be a welcoming place for all. My students have big hearts, curious minds, and a lot of energy. They love going to school again and look forward to engaging and connecting with each other every day.
My Project
Being back in school after a year and a half at home on zoom, these young students are a little anxious, curious, energetic, and sensitive. There is a lot of stimulation everywhere, and many rules and expectations to follow. It is a lot for anyone to handle! Learning mindfulness and ways to stay calm amidst uncertainty is challenging to teach children. The use of "Discovery Bottles", also known as "Sensory Bottles", is one way to teach this concept visually. The items in the jar would represent the stimuli and strong feelings, urges, and thoughts that are ever present. They don't go away, but if we wait and stay still, all of the thoughts, feelings, and urges (represented by the items in the jar) will settle until we can see clearly and begin to make good decisions and act with best intentions.
With these new discovery bottles, students will begin to develop a mindful practice and learn to calm themselves and be better equipped to engage in their learning environment.
There may be conflict and high tensions, especially when transitioning from outdoor play to the indoor classroom setting. I hope to use these bottles at these transition times after lunch, recesses, or P.E., to train students to actively calm themselves when there are stressors around them. We will make a "wet" sensory bottle (with liquid) and a "dry" one (no liquid) to create different experiences.
