My students love the opportunity to move around and explore the things they do not already know about. They are very eager to do something exciting. Hypothesizing where they think the most bacterial cells live, swabbing that area and putting a bacteria swabbed petri dish in the incubator will give then the opportunity to quickly measure bacteria growth.
Being a relatively new school, many classes are in need of specific supplies for basic start up.
Getting to see the quick growth of bacteria by using the incubator will allow the students to actually witness how fast and understand how under certain conditions bacteria cells can grow and potentially cause sickness.
Students will complete data collection and then identify what common household substances work best to kill bacteria. This is not a normal everyday activity and hopefully it will spark curiosities. The bacteria lab should be fun and engaging and something we can successfully accomplish with an incubator.
