This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 34 students in the classroom and they have one pair of binoculars to share. We are need in materials such as magnets and discovery tubes for a science center to provide them with experiences that they would not have outside of the classroom due to their limited resources in the community.

All of my students come from a Latino/Hispanic background.

For many of them their fist language is Spanish and unfortunately they are living within the poverty guidelines. However, they are extremely enthusiastic about coming to school everyday and learning new things. They're in need of the experiences that every child deserves, hence why we are asking for a more abundant and appropriate science center. A lot of our students want to be scientists and use what we have on a daily basis.

My Project

Many of the students talk about how they want to be scientists. These supplies will provide for those students to create the environment of becoming a future scientist. These children go home and tell their parents about their experiences with the science materials and parents will ask what they use in the classroom to try to provide the same experiences at home. The requested science materials will be used to teach basic concepts of colors, magnets, health and hygiene, life cycles, increase observational skills and investigative abilities.

This project is so important because it will provide scientific experiences for children who otherwise may not have them.

Introducing these materials to children that are pre-school age will start a love for science and inquiry.
