Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are so special, no matter what they deal with they love to come to school. A lot of my students deal with so many hardships at home and in the neighborhood and that doesn't stop them from wanting to learn. My students motivate me everyday to go over and beyond to make sure that they are successful. I currently teach at a Title I school in San Pablo, California where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students deal with challenges inside and outside of the classroom, but still have a smile on their faces. Despite those difficulties, my students still have the strength to take pride in their education.
Most of my students come from low income families where resources are scarce.
Even though my students deal with a lot in their day to day lives, they still love coming to school. My students try very hard and that makes me happy to see the looks on their little faces when they are engaged when learning.
My Project
The math manipulates that I'm requesting will allow my students to work on targeted math skills with hands-on math manipulates. Many of my students have never been to school before and have trouble with counting. By having math manipulates, I can help enhance my students math knowledge. The double sided magnetic whiteboards will be used for whole and small group work to write numbers 1-20. The magnetic ten frame answer boards will be used to help students build numbers 1-20. The hands-on number grid gives students the ability to recognize their numbers. The giant magnetic ten frame set will be used to help students with addition and subtraction and the plastic square color tiles will give students another way to count numbers.
The double sided magnetic whiteboards, magnetic ten frame answer boards, hands on number grid, giant magnetic ten frame set, and plastic square color tiles; are the hands-on manipulates that I feel will enhanced my teaching, so my students can be successful when learning the math concepts.
These resources will help my students get more practice with the targeted math skill and they will think it is fun all while learning. My students will also be exposed to multiple ways of learning different math concepts. Having these resources will go along way in assisting my students in becoming successful and securing a strong learning foundation.
