Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students with Autism engage, develop, and cognitively construct and make meaning differently than most students. The use of technology, particularly Apple products, directly correlates with the way students with Autism cognitively operate.
My students are curious, energetic, smart, and creative.
All students that I teach have Autism and are low functioning with many who are non-verbal. I am one of two teachers in a first year Special Education pilot program for students with Autism at our high school.
My Project
My students need an iPod Touch and adapter. The technology that these students would receive will be beneficial in providing them opportunities to grow, connect and make meaning, and in providing voices to students who are non-verbal. The ease, intentionality, and capability of Apple products make them tailor-made learning tools for students with Autism. Essentially, they enable students to connect and make learning possible in ways that are not possible without these products.
Research shows the learning that can occur and be possible for students with Autism utilizing Apple products and apps.
