Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach music (vocal, theory, and history) to a diverse group of music students at a Title I Visual and Performing Arts school in Los Angeles. Students come to our public high school from all over the city to receive a top-notch education in both academics and their chosen art form (music, dance, visual or theater). Many of them go on to study at some of the top academic colleges and art schools across the country.
Our students are hungry for opportunities to make beautiful music and to share it with the world.
My Project
I am requesting a handbell set. I want my students to learn how to read and play music using handbells. Handbells are a great way for students to develop musical skills; especially if they have not had a lot of singing or instrument playing experience in the past. They will have the opportunity to learn how to work together as a team to rehearse and perform handbell music in the classroom and in future school performances.
The handbell set will help my students develop their musical abilities as performers as well as their appreciation for music as listeners.
My students need opportunities that allow them to express themselves musically. By learning how to play handbells, students will have an outlet to be heard in a musical way while also practicing the important skill of working as a team unit.
