Digitizing Math to Reach All Students

Help me give my students the attention and help they need with mobile teaching using an iPad for instruction, that will allow them to utilize technology during collaboration and instruction of difficult math concepts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am requesting an iPad, Apple Pencil, Apple TV (to connect to the classroom projector), and iPad case (to preserve through student use) to increase student engagement in the classroom. I have borrowed another teacher's device to see how this would work in my classroom and the kids love it. The technology allows me to circulate throughout the classroom and bring the learning directly to students.

Learning math can be challenging and anything I can do to improve my students' understanding, I will do.

Using the iPad has allowed me to walk around the room and address students needs as they are working collaboratively at their whiteboards, as well as when working in table groups. They are able to use the iPad to gain a better "feel" for how difficult geometric concepts work and relate. Geometry has a lot of shapes that include lines, angles, many relationships that can be made easier to understand using the mobile tools that the iPad and it's drawing capabilities provide. It is a wonderful tool that allows common misconceptions to be addressed, and amazing discoveries to be made. This will also contribute to working with more sustainable resources, reducing the need for paper and other resources and instead, being replaced with more modern and technological resources that students are familiar with.

This tool will really increase my students' understanding in a meaningful way so that they can dig deeper into the material, while sustaining their interest and engagement through immediate feedback. It will allow students, including those traditionally marginalized, that do not have access to technology to gain deeper understanding of maths through equitable access. We would be so grateful for this added layer of support in our classroom.
