My Students
My students are mainly low-income with over half the school qualifying for free or reduced lunch with minority enrollment making us a Title I school. My Visual Arts classroom is a place of challenge and discovery. Students spend this year learning the foundations of art techniques to develop their artistic skills. Our students enjoy a rigorous art and academic education. Giving them an outlet to show their artistic voice and vision is what drives our program.
Our school embraces a generosity of spirit and passion for academic excellence by preparing our 21st century scholars so that we reach "Every Student in every classroom, without exceptions, without excuses." My students are eager to create and showcase their artwork at our school and in the community to promote their culture and artistic voice.
These students take ownership of their own learning and have the willingness to take risks and try new things. In spite of the challenges our students face, our students and staff are enthusiastic and ready to learn and explore new ideas. Our goal is not to just prepare our students for success in high school, career, trade school, and college but to nurture positive relationships.
My Project
My students will utilize the new classroom dedicated Macbook for compiling and digitizing their own artwork. Currently, I have been doing this for them. This will help cut down on the time it takes to showcase artwork online and building portfolios.
Students will be able to see what other classes have completed for similar projects, and it will also serve as a “traveling research tool” that students can use at their desks.
Students will be able to create electronic art portfolios using this new technology device. This will make a huge difference in my students lives and in turn prepare them to become 21st century learners.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
