This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at an amazing school where almost all of my inner-city students are from low-income backgrounds. Currently, our students are experiencing distance learning from their homes. On the last day of school we gathered as many materials as we could and hoped for the best. I communicate with my students daily using Remind, Google Classroom, Flipgrid, video conferences, and phone calls. I am able to connect with all of them. One big thing they are missing from school are all the hands-on activities they did with instant feedback that I provided. I'm hoping this project will bring my students back a little normality.
My Project
Our classroom had a huge shift due to this pandemic. That has not stopped my students' hunger for learning. I have moved my classroom completely online. We have class meetings online and are continuing our learning with what we have. However, it is almost impossible to teach Math without being able to show solid good examples like I normally would on a whiteboard. We've tried different platforms and students struggle to see what I am trying to convey. There are many videos online but nothing compares to watching your own teacher teach over watching other strangers teach.
With this Apple iPad Pro, my students will have the ability to finally see teacher examples, videos, and share their screens as I give them instant feedback.
I will be able to write and share math equations, and communicate with my students with a creating a virtual whiteboard with the iPad.
My students face many difficulties in their lives and access to education should not be one of them. Please consider helping our future with a donation to this project. When I go on live video conferences with 25 students at a time I feel helpless not being able to project the tools that they need most. My special education students are the ones suffering the most. I want to give them all the high-quality remote learning that they deserve.
