My Students
In my class, students have the ability to explore their artistic sides while learning core area content. By empowering students through art, students have opportunities to express themselves in a way that no other class offers. I focus on music as a tool to learn various classroom subjects.
I teach at two schools in my district.
The school that I am asking this project for is the oldest in the district. It houses over 500 students in grades Pre-K through 5th. We have talented students who come to us from all over the city. They come from low income homes, middle income homes, military families and families where English is spoken as a second language. We have a diverse population when it comes to our student body.
My Project
This is where the empowering the students through art comes in. Each year we have a program that presents songs that our 3rd graders prepare. The theme of this program is Georgia Habitat Boogie. We take various popular songs and rewrite the lyrics to match the content area they are learning about in their classroom. I would like to have the students be in charge of the whole production even down to the sound engineers! This will provide students the opportunity play a huge role in a program without having to be center stage. My students need a sound system for our annual Georgia Habitat production!
I think this project will make a difference by allowing students to learn a skill that they can use later in life whether it be volunteering at their local church or possibly as a career in the fields of deejaying, sound engineering, studio engineer, and more.
The materials in this project will make a big difference for our school when comes to school dances, PTA meetings, field day events and any other activity that needs music or microphones!
