The students of our school are a cohort of diverse, intelligent, and hardworking students from around the New York City Metropolitan area. Our school is a selective, public, college preparatory school with a focus on science, math, technology, and engineering that provides a challenging academic experience that prepares students for careers in science, math, and engineering.
Distance learning has been a challenge for our diverse learners with diverse needs.
The current circumstance has highlighted the inequities that exist at our school. Many students either do not have technology or have had to share technology with their families (siblings who also have online learning and their parents who are also expected t work). As a result, they miss interacting with their teachers and their ability to ask questions and get clarity about assignments. Without that ability, gaps in their learning are developing which negatively affects their learning.
My Project
The materials we are obtaining for our students will assist them with at home learning and beyond. Many of our families cannot afford technology and obtaining these tablets will help them close the gap.
When students are not able to access lessons and information for their classes, their learning suffers.
Because this tablet is multi functional, it alleviates families from having to buy general education material (i.e. paper, colored pencils, etc.) because this works as a substitute. Students can complete daily lessons and homework right on the tablet through the touch screen apps that the students to physically write. The camera feature not only assists with learning in accessing their teachers and their live lessons but also allows them to socially interact with their friends for some much needed mental health development!
