My students need laptops so that they can utilize technology in their exploration of History including choices like videos, research projects, and podcasts.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Coomber's classroom raised $982

My Students
My students include 7th and 8th graders whose families have chosen to attend a charter school focusing on Arts & Personalized Learning. They come from all around the southern areas of San Diego County.
I love knowing that I'm building the next generation of artists, performers, and thinkers.
I want to be able to provide them each with the environment and resources that they need to grow and thrive.
There's so many students that can be truly engaged in their learning thanks to Arts integration. Some of my students are wonderfully talented at a Fine Art, Dance, or Music, and some of them are just beginning to cultivate an interest. My goal is to help each of them reach their fullest potential, through constantly integrating art into their learning.
I teach History, but am also the supervisor for our "Board Games & RPG Club" as well as "Student Council." Moreover, I teach electives: Comics & Board Games design.
My Project
I have deliberately chosen 4 budget laptops from Amazon because really any type of cheap Chromebook will be miles ahead of the extraordinarily slow tablets that my students often have to use to research online or watch educational videos. These Chromebooks are further supported by a donation from AT&T, making it a very efficient donation. In my home life, I love using computers for learning (and gaming) and it pains me that some of my students don't have ready access to all the possibilities that the modern internet provides. These are students that don't have access to technology at home, and then come to school and I still can't provide them with consistent access.
Laptops are the pen & and paper of the Digital Age.
You can learn so much, and create so many possibilities by having more laptops available for all students. We have a small class set (8) of laptops, but a 3 to 1 ratio just doesn't work for the majority of projects. I know that it could make a big difference for the productivity and creativity of a lot of my students.
In my history classroom, these laptops will be used for students to write new stories, edit historical role plays, and explore primary sources. They will be able to listen to recordings of people from the past, and create their own podcasts and videos in response to them. They will absolutely help my students learn to become better digital storytellers. History is a subject that has a ton of potential for students to empathize with people from the past, and even more so when they're given the tools they need to connect on a personal level.
