My Students

Albert Einstein quotes, "The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size." Therefore, my goal is to provide my diverse learners with meaningful projects and instructional resources to address the disabilities that impede their learning, such as attention deficit, dyslexia, social-emotional, and autism. Their past experiences of failure in school have outweighed their successes as they also deal with socioeconomic ills within their communities, making the burden to learn more difficult.

Nevertheless, despite their circumstances, my students are inquisitive, creative, hopeful, and eager to come to school- their haven; therefore, they know that their teacher holds their minds dear to her heart and will continue to discover innovative ways to challenge them to think and learn!

Aligning each student to the appropriate instructional resources, my students can grasp concepts through a combination of visual stimuli and usage of hands-on materials, as well as respond to intervention through interactive, arts-infused, project-based, hands-on learning activities. With time and investment in exploring how they learn, my students will leave my classroom with a newfound growth mindset!

My Project

Our class has been blessed to receive non-traditional resources in our classroom. Resources that students would have only had excess to if traveled outside of their communities to more affluent programs on the other side of town; programs that the majority of families would not be able to afford.

My scholars are diverse learners and their thirst for learning comes from projects that tune into how they learn- digitally.

It has been observed that my scholars also respond well to resources that combined visual and auditory learning along with movement (kinesthetic). As the health crisis still affects our classrooms with multiple quarantines coupled with nearly two years of learning loss and social interaction, my scholars find solace in gaming. This excites them to the point that they compete with each other online and it builds a sense of collaboration, teamwork and sportsmanship.

There is a Esports program that embraces digital sports/competition across communities, which, will give my scholars the opportunity to interact with other scholars of different nationalities with the same interest; scholars whom they would not ordinarily meet.

It is my belief that access, and exposure minimizes the "diversity, equity and inclusion" divide. This project encompasses sportsmanship along with social-emotional learning in support of mental wellness as students need a sense of escape from crisis coupled emotional intelligence (development of interpersonal relationships) to cope with the ongoing changes within our world.
