My Students
My students live in a small community in Southern Indiana. A lot of our students come from rural areas and although we are close to the cultural diversity of a college town my students are fairly isolated to practices from around the world. I have taught math, social studies, and personal finance.
My students are passionate about choice in their education and enjoy flexible seating options, project-based learning, and engaging activities that challenge them to think critically about the learning objectives.
My Project
The 2020-2021 school year has been one for the ages. Students have experienced completely virtual learning, hybrid learning, and 100% face-to-face learning. The resources of Nearpod and Breakout EDU are wonderful resources that I have used in the past. I have used the free version of Nearpod which greatly limits my library of effective lessons. I currently have multiple breakout kits but the platform access in my proposal gives me digital escape rooms as well as the setup lessons for the actual kits. These two resources help make my class unique and fun for students. I don't want to be a traditional social studies classroom with a heavy emphasis on worksheets and repetitive note taking. Nearpod and Breakout EDU continue to help shape the way I deliver content to students and engage them in the learning of the Eastern Hemisphere. My students repeatedly say "That was fun!" or "when can we do this again?" after using these resources so I know they will be a wonderful addition to my class.
