I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district and my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the daily challenges, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with a learning experience that is creative and meaningful .
My students are highly motivated, active, and love hands-on learning.
They like to move and dance, they love to read and LOVE lots of positive attention. The majority of them are on a free/reduced lunch based on their socioeconomic status. From the moment they walk in I'm like their "school mom" and make sure that they are well-taken care of from having a snack to our school providing weekend food so they are not going hungry during that time. From the minute they walk in the door, I focus on providing them with a cohesive learning environment where they feel welcomed and loved. I may not be able to control what happens at home, but I can control what happens during the school day. By doing this in a fun, entertaining, and positive way, I hope that I can instill a love of learning for a lifetime.
My Project
In this time of need, not knowing how or when we will be teaching strictly remotely again, I would greatly appreciate some digital resources to use with my students from Teachers Pay Teachers. Some resources that I am in need of are digital writing guides, math centers, and reading centers. These resources will be used remotely from home or at school in “groups.” I plan on using these to help model writing for the beginning of the year where learning in most crucial in second grade. The math and reading centers would be used when using Google Meets to have active discussions amongst myself and my students. These second graders and myself would benefit from these resources in a major way!
