This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a large urban high school. I am about to begin my 20th year teaching and I have spent my entire career in this one community.
My students are from south Los Angeles county, the majority of them are Latinos, many are second language learners, and they attend a high school with more than 2000 students.
They are part of the Health, Science, and Medicine Academy at our high school. I have the opportunity to loop with many of these students growing with them from 10th through 12th grade.
My Project
The fast shift to remote learning was not without glitches, but I have worked hard to try to keep the spirit of my high school English classes alive even though we are no longer all together in my classroom.
Organization is by far the most crucial skill to maintain student engagement and provide strong, focused lessons.
Having an iPad and an Apple Pencil will help me as I strive to be even more organized. I plan on updating my lesson planning with the use of a digital lesson planner that I can embed all the files into the daily, weekly, and unit plans. I will organize all the educational apps I use for easy access while using my laptop to deliver a remote lesson. Moreover, students will also have access to the daily plan where their assignments are only a single click away.
