Digital Movie Making for Creative Young Minds

My students need two iPad Minis & shock-proof cases so they can create and capture video.

My Students

My students are inquisitive, hands-on learners, and are so excited when they can learn about and experiment with engaging technology. Whenever possible, I want to put this technology in their hands so they can create, problem solve, and develop their visual understanding of complex ideas.

We teach approximately 500 students in grades K-5 and this movie-making project will be incorporated into my school-wide technology instruction.

Just as important, the students will use this technology outside of the classroom by recording videos "on location" and editing their video projects online. This project will help our students develop their scientific, creative, analytical, problem solving, collaborative, and communication skills in an engaging and meaningful way.

My Project

We have so many students who love to perform on camera and share eager to share their ideas through fun and "polished" videos. With the right technology and training, these budding videographers will have the opportunity to create and share their own digital movie creations. We can help them do this with the iPad Mini 2, which is a powerful yet easy to use device that captures high-quality video and allows students to do quick video editing. Since the students will be out in the community filming their projects, the addition of the shock-proof cases will help ensure that the technology will be protected from any bumps and bruises and will be available for many years to come.

Through this movie making project, our students will storyboard, write a script, film the scenes, edit their clips into a short movie, and share it with the world.

Student-created dramas, comedies, documentaries, and animated videos will all be possible if we can get this project funded. This is such a wonderful collaborative activity that will provide them with technical skills and experience that they can carry over to so many other lessons and classes.
