This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My middle and high school science students are ready for the 21st Century Science Classroom! They use computers in class daily as they solve problems and explore in the science classroom. Our classroom is using 3D technology, computers, interactive websites, and more to bring science alive.
These students are college bound and career ready, but they need more technology experiences to have a more realistic view of the world outside the classroom.
Technology is key in bridging the digital divide. My students need to be exposed to modern devices and how to use them in a science classroom.
My Project
We have microscopes and use them often, but our students need to be able to examine the images in more detail at a later date--not just the day the sample was taken. Digital microscopy would improve our ability to analyze information at a higher quality. This high-quality digital microscope would allow the images to be shared and saved to allow for more analysis. Students could measure the field of view and do calculations of specimen sizes with greater accuracy. They could share their findings in lab reports. As of today students use their cell phones to capture images from the microscopes, but that is too cumbersome and not very effective.
