Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is comprised of over 70% low-income students comprised of a wide variety of reading comprehension levels. Students frequently cannot afford their own resources but are too embarrassed to let teachers and other support staff know that they cannot acquire the necessary materials to be competitive academically.
My students have demonstrated an exceptional appreciation for the materials I provide personally and through DonorsChoose.org.
This year I have been endeavoring to provide digital support and engaging lessons, within the constraints of limited wireless accessibility. Students need assignments that are easy to complete individually when the internet is down or they cannot connect to class for any reason. Many of the lessons available through Teachers Pay Teachers are exceptional and created by seasoned instructors. When I go and look for a resource, I am always reminded of the idiom, "Why re-invent the wheel?" Frequently, these lessons are used with modifications to meet the needs of all of our students. They are invaluable and I have used some of them for years.
My Project
Students have done an outstanding job of adapting to the digital learning format but I would like to provide them with a larger variety of engaging lessons that will assist them in collaborative learning. Students will be able to create projects collaboratively, compete in escape rooms virtually, and develop skills that will help them be successful in college and careers long after they graduate from high school.
Teachers Pay Teachers is an excellent example of the idiom, "Why reinvent the wheel?" These are not old wheels but rather up to date and current lessons and resources that take learning to a higher level in a digital format.
The lessons in TPT are of high interest and exceptionally engaging, having been created by some dynamic and outstanding teachers, who model 21st century teaching at its finest.
