Digital Input Technology

My students need 30 headsets to complete online courses and media activities. My students also need a 3D printer to keep up with new technologies as they are released.

My Students

My classroom combines contemporary business with emerging technologies to prepare the youth in Roanoke, Virginia to compete in educational programs and eventually an evolving workplace.

My students come from many different races and backgrounds in a school of about 600 students.

We are one of five middle schools in Roanoke, VA. At Madison, I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in elective classes. I teach over 1/3 of the schools students. The content/curriculum in my classroom is new to middle schools in the past 2 years. 6th graders learn how to start and manage a business. My 7th graders either take a class in computer solutions or a class in personal finance, business, and marketing. Finally, 8th graders take an optional high school credit digital technology class.

My Project

With the 30 headphones requested, my students will be able to complete web courses that require students to listen to flash videos or mp3 files. Additionally, I teach my students basic video/sound editing that will also require headphones. I do not have any headphones currently. My school has a medium level of poverty and some students cannot afford personal headphones. These headphones in particular have a generally positive review and seem to be durable. The 3D printer is crucial to exposing my students to emerging technologies that are already having immense impacts on society. Students would get a first hand look/use of 3D technologies to create projects, enter competitions, and solve problems. This product in particular has positive reviews and is an affordable/safe option for the classroom.

My project will make a difference in the lives of my students by supplying them with more materials to enhance their learning experience.

After hours of researching materials for my classroom and consulting students, CTE teachers, and principals, I have determined that these items are what we need the most. The headphones and 3D printer will expand my classroom's reach by meeting higher order thinking skills and keeping my students up to date with technology they will work with one day.
