My students need 2 iPads to create tutorials and multi-media projects.

My Students
Robert Frost said "I teach in order to learn."
As a teacher, I guide students in learning, but I also learn from my students. This is especially true in the digital age. As I teach skills in becoming historians, students teach me new innovations which inspires me to create a digital classroom.
Our school has a diverse population of learners who are bright, curious, talented and eager to learn!
Many classes are student-driven in that rather than teachers being the "sage on the stage" we opt to be the "guide on the side." With the right materials and some facilitation or guidance from teachers, students are the masters of their own learning.
Our students have many talents and we try to tailor instruction to incorporate those talents. After studying political cartoons from a particular time period, students who artistically inclined have the opportunity to create their own political cartoon. Or in a unit on activism, student musicians can create their own song of activism on a present-day social, political or economic issue.
We have an impressive amount of students who -after a placement test and a competitive application process- are accepted into specialized high schools whose graduates boast acceptance into the nation's top colleges and universities.
My Project
It is my hope to enhance the teaching and learning of history by engaging students in digital projects. With their skills in the use of technology, I hope to engage them with digital projects in gathering information and demonstrating learning with innovative and informative products.
With iPads and access to the many applications available, students will be able demonstrate their learning in a variety of digital products such as tutorials, videos, animations, blogs and graphic novels.
In the creation of these products, students will not only develop literacy skills such as reading primary and secondary sources to identify claims and supporting evidence, and writing narratives and arguments, but they will be able to develop 21st century skills such as communication and collaboration with project-based learning.
Donations to this project will help to create a digital classroom for learners.
In creating a digital classroom, I hope to provide students with a positive learning experience that fosters skills to make them college and career ready.
A digital classroom will also help facilitate project-based learning experiences which have proven to foster learning more effectively than traditional "chalk and talk" methods of instruction.
