Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a very low socioeconomic environment in which most of them receive free lunch in our district. These children come from all types of backgrounds, and many are children that have migrated to the United States. Many of my students have very limited schooling in their own language and are now thrust into a formal school setting. We move from learning letters to reading very quickly. We help students learn English while holding onto and becoming literate in their own language as well.

My students have not only been affected by their low socioeconomic condition, but they also live in the second highest state most affected by the coronavirus in the nation.

We are continuously looking for innovative approaches to teaching and learning to help our most underprivileged students. A creative use of technology can make a difference in their lives.

My Project

I plan to capture all their amazing learning experiences including projects the students work on while providing a digital platform for teaching and learning. Along with displaying the pictures with student dictation, I will also share the pictures with parents during parent/teacher conferences in person or virtually. This will help the parents get a clearer picture of a day in their child's learning experience. It would be an addition as virtual portfolio documentation. I will capture their Scientific Exploration through photographs from beginning to end. In addition, I will share the photographs on our school webpage to share with the parents and the community.

Having this camera will help students reflect on their learning in a meaningful way.

As visual learners, they will have an opportunity to revisit educational experiences via printed photos and digital ones as well. It will help build language development and foster life-long skills that will carry throughout all other learning experiences.
