Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager to learn. They engage in meaningful play experiences throughout the day in different learning areas, especially the Science Area. Taking photographs during these hands-on experiences and later encouraging them to reflect on what they were doing fosters language development.
My students consist of three and four year olds at all levels of development.
They consist of English Language Learners as well as monolingual students. It's a public pre-school in an Abbott district. My students are curious and are constantly exploring new things. As a facilitator in their learning experiences, I would like to capture these moments to aid in their learning experiences. I aid in their learning experiences by asking questions and providing additional materials to encourage them to think deeper in order for optimal learning to occur. I often take pictures with my old point and shoot camera and later provide the pictures to the students and invite them to talk about that learning experience. This type of activity encourages students to demonstrate understanding, foster language development as well as aid in social emotional development as they share their experiences with their peers.
My Project
I plan to capture all their amazing learning experiences including projects the students work on. Along with displaying the pictures with student dictation, I will also share the pictures with parents during parent / teacher conferences. This will help the parents get a clearer picture of a day in their child's learning experience. It would be an addition as portfolio documentation. I will capture their Scientific Exploration through photographs from beginning to end. In addition, I will share the photographs on our school webpage to share with the parents and the community.
Having this camera will help students reflect on their learning in a meaningful way.
As visual learners, they will have an opportunity to revisit educational experiences. It will help build language development and foster life long skills that will carry throughout all other learning experiences.
