Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school speaking languages other than English at home and are expected to learn and understand all the same curriculum as their English speaking peers.

My students are smart, driven and ambitious children who love to learn and are doing so while learning content and English simultaneously.

My students are in classes with students who speak English only and also students who speak English and other languages.

My students are special because they come from various backgrounds and parts of the world. I teach in a Title I School in NYC. Eager to grow and learn in school, they do not let this hold them back. They work hard every day.

My Project

My students would love to have access to a wider range of books for independent and guided reading. They need to become more proficient in navigating through apps in a very digital era. Through the use of tablets, we will have access to apps that allow me to assign digital books for my students to read in school. Many of these apps and books will be focused on teaching about differences and tolerance.

Working with small groups, I can have all students reading the same book as we work on a skill together.

We do not always have multiple copies of books, so tablets will allow students to read the same books and then have richer discussions about what they are reading.
