Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my self-contained special education classroom there is a community of learners of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and grade levels. They are kind, resilient, and exceptional students interested in a wide range of activities from urban planning to basketball.
Your gift will give my students with disabilities the opportunity to learn in ways that best fits their needs and help them maintain safe physical distance from their peers.
The students in my special education class have mild to moderate intellectual, cognitive, and physical disabilities. Our class is made up of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Each student is unique, creating a diverse group of learners in my class with varying interests, strengths, abilities, and learning styles.
As a special education teacher, I work every day to find solutions and resources to help develop my students' academic, communication, and social skills. With the technology that is available today, my students are given an opportunity to learn in a variety of ways to best address their individual needs and to reduce the risk of COVID19 transmission by having individual computer stations in the classroom.
My Project
My goal is to provide each student with their own personalized learning station to maintain social distancing and to cater to each student's needs.
It is difficult for my students to share computers due to COVID19 and their varying accessibility needs; text size, speech-to-text, language, captions, text-to-speech, special keyboard/mouse, etc.
My students are auditory and visual learners, which makes Chromebooks & headsets with microphones perfect instructional tools for academic lessons, communication, social skills, and positive behavior supports.
Students will use the Chromebooks to engage in:
* Communication and participation in a variety of formats and platforms
* Student-paced, specially designed lessons
* Interactive Science simulations
* Use of digital manipulatives
* Student choice, project-based learning
* Develop 21st Century and Digital Citizenship skills
