This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are middle schoolers at a Title One school in New York. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many from tough homes. They are overcoming social and emotional barriers each day to receive an education. My students are active and enthusiastic. They are motivated and eager to do well. They want to learn and are constantly seeking opportunities to take ownership of their learning.
Our school is in a high needs, high poverty area in which most children are on free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch programs.
My students work hard despite the challenges they face. Many students stay after school, participate in after-school clubs and activities and are always striving to be, and do, better for themselves and for others.
My Project
My students are so excited to learn about the past. As we move from learning about Ancient Greece to learning about Egyptian civilization my students need both text and tech resources to fully engage with the curriculum at hand.
Using technology to engage my students to learn about the past allows for greater student engagement.
The Chromebooks will allow students to research more information about Egyptian gods; architecture; and life in Ancient Egypt; the headphone splitter and headphones will allow students to take visual and audio tours of different museums around the world that houses Egyptian art collections-all of which is part of the immersion process of getting students to create their own Egyptian inspired artwork. The books will allow students to engage in reading information that pertains to Ancient Egypt and get them started on wanting to learn more about Egyptian civilization. Based on this unit, students will research artifacts; watch informational Egyptian videos and create art work that is influence on learning about the different gods, and life in Ancient Egypt.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
