Kindergarten should be filled with lots of hands-on activities so I strive to make my classroom just that. I believe all children learn better when they are actively involved in the learning process.
I have been teaching kindergarten for 10 years in a small, rural school.
Each year, I am presented with new challenges for meeting my students' needs on a limited budget. I gladly accept the challenge each year because my school is truly a part of me. I consider my students a part of my family!
My Project
Each year, I teach ELA, math, science, and social studies through various thematic units. One of my favorite fall themes is owls. The children can explore the food chain and learn lots of fascinating nonfiction facts about these nocturnal animals. I already have a well-stocked book center with nonfiction owl books, but we need owl pellets to complete our unit. The books are a great resource and provide a learning foundation for the children, but seeing/doing is believing. The children need to get their hands dirty and dig into the owl pellets to truly experience the owl food chain.
The owl pellets will provide a wonderful hands-on learning experience for my students.
Reading books about owls is wonderful, but to complete the learning process, they need to actually see, smell, and touch real owl pellets. I believe the owl theme will come to life if they can actually dissect the pellets. Please help my students become little scientists by funding this project. Thanks for your support!
