Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I’m excited to give my students the chance to step outside the classroom and into the garden, where hands-on learning comes to life. To make this dream possible, we’re hoping to gather a set of gardening tools and educational books about plants, ecosystems, and sustainable growing. These tools will give students the opportunity to care for their own garden beds, practice teamwork, and experience the satisfaction of watching something they planted flourish. The books will deepen their understanding of the science behind gardening, connecting what they read to what they see in the soil.

These supplies will not only help our plants grow — they’ll help our students grow, too.

Through this project, my goal is to create a space where students can learn responsibility, environmental stewardship, and the value of patience and hard work. Gardening encourages problem-solving and observation skills as students face challenges like unpredictable weather, pests, or plant health. It also offers a chance to unplug from screens, reduce stress, and reconnect with the natural world, right in our school courtyard.

What makes my students special is their endless curiosity and resilience. Many of them have limited access to green spaces or opportunities for outdoor learning, and this garden will give them a place to explore, experiment, and succeed in new ways.
