Digging Into Ancient History: Exploring the Past

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Please help our entire 6th-grade class of 100+ students take learning to a new level with these hands-on, living history moments that overlap our ancient history social studies standards with our science, math, and English Language Arts curriculum for a learning experience they will remember fondly.

We are a Title I school serving the most amazing students.

Title I means we are a school that is part of a federally funded educational program. This program provides supplemental funds to schools with the highest student concentration of poverty to meet school educational goals. We have a fantastic group of students from all walks of life. Because of some of the economic challenges our students may face, they have never experienced the wonders of ancient history (readings, art, and science).

My Project

Students will perform an archaeological dig using the bins with a coordinate to dig for buried artifacts, weigh mummies before and after the mummification process, drawing in caves like the early hominids did with our first writing, write on cuneiform tablets like those from the prehistoric and Mesopotamia era, and even write in hieroglyphics as the Egyptians did.

Students will dig deeper (literally) as they explore the world we live in.

We will employ the senses and creativity to help take learning to a new level for our students. We have enough supplies for all four classrooms to do the projects, ensuring everyone has fun and learning takes place.
