Digging Deep with Digital Storytelling

My students need Chromebooks to do research and create projects, such as digital stories, to help them process new learning and make meaningful connections between historical and current events.

My Students

Fifth grade is an important grade because it is when they start to become individuals and really begin to think about who they want to become. They may not be ready to choose a career path, but are deciding if they are going to give it their all to do well in school, sports, and friendships. My students give it their all, all day, every day! Technology helps me motivate them!

Unfortunately, our school receives very little funding for resources like technology and technology-related supplies.

We do the best we can to share among classes, but the continuous use of technology, daily, will help them become more proficient and motivated. Help me, help them!

My Project

These Chromebooks will help my students bring their realistic and historical fiction stories to life and share them with the world. My students will research topics in from our social studies curriculum using Google and YouTube. They will use what they have learned to write historical fiction stories on Chromebooks using Google Docs and illustrate them using Chrome Extensions such as Freebird or importing real photos or photos of their own illustrations before reciting and sharing them through Screencastify. Publishing their stories on Freebird and recording their stories through Screencastify will allow my students to share their stories with classmates and even the world through Google Drive or YouTube. Through the use of Google Drive and the Google Apps platform, students will be able to celebrate and provide feedback to each other through collaboration.
