My Students
Our Title I urban high school is unique. Although we are a public school, students must apply and go through an interview process. The school's curriculum is rigorous, and both families and students make a huge commitment to the student's future by enrolling in the school. Students can graduate with not only a high school diploma but an AA degree as well. Over 95% of our students go to college-- more than the district average.

My Project
The school's Social Justice Club is in its third year, and with the country's current climate the club is probably more relevant than ever. We will cover several topics, but we'll dig deepest into racism and antiracism.
Books help students understand why our political climate is divisive and charged; books help students explore their own views and beliefs; books offer students a safe way to discuss racism and antiracism.
Jason Reynolds' non-fiction book is a powerhouse that covers centuries of history. Jodi Picoult's fiction book showcases everyday racism to which all of us can relate.
