My Project
I teach special education K-2 resource and K-5th medical/adaptive in a self contained learning environment. My classroom is filled with diverse and unique needs. I teach a variety of students with disabilities in a small rural town located in Idaho.
Many of my students have sensory processing needs.
Children and adults with autism, as well as those with other developmental disabilities, may have a dysfunctional sensory system – referred to as sensory integration disorders in ASD. Items, such as a portable hammock camp chair would allow us to provide our students with vestibular moment in the classroom, on the playground, on a field trip, at an assembly, in the hallway, and so much more.
Many of these items may seem unique to a classroom, but just like a hammock camp chair, these items would help meet the needs of many students in a variety of ways. If they can't learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn!
