Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first year teacher, of a second grade classroom. I have 16 amazing, curious, and intelligent students. As I gain valuable knowledge and experience from my students, I am aware that every child is diverse. My students come from different backgrounds. The knowledge they bring from outside of school is just breathtaking. They are able to teach us all a little something about themselves and their cultural values and traditions. I have very passionate students, passionate about learning. Although they are young they realize injustices due to their skin color, eye color, and zip code. I have a particular student that is passionate about Dr. King, she's able to state dates, events, and tell how this has affected her family.

As an educator, I've realized that it is very important to reach ALL of your students and meet them where they are.

My students do not all learn in a "one size fits all" model. I want to support their learning, based on their assets. I want them to pursue their curiosity and their passions in order to have them apply learning in school and at home.

My Project

These materials will support my students' learning, because all of my students come from different backgrounds. They each come with their individual learning assets. I want to support their learning and meet them where they are currently at.

Having hands-on materials will allow my students to explore different mediums, in order to supplement their learning and support their different learning styles.

Students will be able to part-take in many educational websites, on the Chromebooks, that will further support their learning. They will also have a different hands-on activity for their Word Work, as they can further practice their High Frequency Words.

I am a first year teacher and am still continuing to build and support a diverse learning environment. This has been a great challenge, especially because Technology is limited in our school.
