Differentiated Learning Centers For Special Needs Students!
My students need supplies to use in their differentiated small learning centers, including lapboard white boards, markers, and daily comprehension journals for ELA.
My students love to learn but have trouble learning at the same pace and style as each other. My classroom works best when we work in small learning centers that rotate around the classroom, thus providing many different learning opportunities for my students to excel in.
My class consists of twelve students that have emotional disabilities.
We are located in a very high poverty level of New York City, in a specialized District 75 school. My students come from homes with very little and although I work in a great school, they just do not have the funds to give us what we need. My students have an array of emotional problems that cause teaching to be an everyday challenge. My students are unable to deal with difficult situations and when they become frustrated during a lesson, they will fight, curse, and misbehave which takes away from what I am teaching.
My Project
In a special education classroom, especially with students that are taking the Standardized exams, it is very difficult to get the material across to all twelve of my students. In order to teach each student, it is very important to work in small learning groups that rotate to different centers so that they have an opportunity to work on something that they are able to. Each center is led by either myself or a paraprofessional and give all twelve of my students a chance to work on something that they enjoy and are able to understand. When we work with materials that interest my student, we are able to successfully teach new topics whether in reading, writing, or math. Games, white boards, and writing books will help my students with new skills, communication, and working with each other which will help these students for the rest of their lives.
This donations will greatly help my classroom with learning new skills, learning to work together, and monitoring behaviors.
My students need to learn these skills so that they will be able to be successful in the later parts of their lives, whether it be middle school, a job, or functioning in society.
