Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students begin/end every day with reading. If they had their way they would read all day! I want my students to be able to read at or above grade level by the end of the year. My biggest challenge is that my students' levels range from pre-K to 2nd grade.
My students are a wonderful group of 28 energetic kinders and first graders.
They enjoy reading and they are beginning to love writing too! The love to be active, dance and sing. They can be very silly and always laugh at my terrible jokes. They love to give hugs and drawings to show how much they care. I want them to have the best because they are the best! However, only 18% of my students started this year at-grade-level in reading. Ours is a Title 1 school in a low-income area. 95.8% of our students are from families living far below the poverty line. 60% of our students are English language learners. I have a classroom full of eager learners with tons of potential. The items that I'm requesting will help me unlock their potential and stimulate their imaginations. I try to instill in my students that education is the key to a better life and that by becoming great readers and writers, each of them can do great things!
My Project
The differentiated reading comprehension, sight word and writing practice activities will be used for Daily 5 centers and small group intervention. Daily 5 consist of 5 activities: read-to-self, read-to-someone, listen-to-reading, word work and work on writing. The students need to be able to do these activities independently while I meet with small groups (intervention). I will use these resources to individualize daily 5 activities and intervention to support my students needs. Many of the resources I requested can be adjusted up or down based on need. The book bins will be used to help organize our classroom library so each student can easily find books at their independent reading level. I want them to enjoy the library and reading. If they are reading books at their level then they will feel more confident and enjoy reading. I have found that if they can't find a book to read at their level many get frustrated and give up. These resources will help them to not only be better readers but also better writers.
This project will provide resources for differentiated daily 5 centers and small group instruction.
It will help me reach each student at their own developmental level. I want each student to be successful in my classroom. Having activities that I can easily adapt for different levels is especially important. Tailoring my resources to meet the needs of each of my students will help my young learners feel successful and be more successful!
