Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a kindergarten teacher in Chicago Public Schools, I work in a neighborhood with a diverse population of immigrants. My students come from many cultural, ethnic, and language backgrounds.

My students are loving, energetic people in need of an environment that is easy to navigate, and tools that are organized and easy to use.

Most of my students are English Language Learners, and a high percentage (30%) of my students have special needs. Their year in my kindergarten classroom is often their first formal education experience, and it is my goal to make the social, academic, and English learning process as smooth as possible for them.

My Project

After meeting my new class of kindergarten students this year, I have taken stock of the supports available in my classroom and realized I need a lot more to meet my students' needs.

These supplies will support the diverse learners in my room, as well as the handful of kiddos with a surplus of energy!

Quite a few of my kindergartners this year have no formal education experience, and the adjustment to school is proving difficult. The supplies I've selected will help students stay focused and participate at our meetings, at their desks, in the hall, and even in their specials classrooms (music, art, etc)! I love that many of the fidgets are transportable, and the wobble chairs can follow the students around the room. I cannot wait to have these supports in my room.
